FAQ: Why is iCloud telling me that there's not enough space left and that I need to purchase some storage?

This message could indeed look strange, especially if you’re sure that you already purchased some iCloud storage before.

There are two possibilities here:

  1. Either you've hit the maximum capacity available with your current iCloud Storage Plan

  2. Or iCloud automatically downgraded your iCloud storage to the free 5GB plan

To check your current iCloud storage plan on your iPhone, visit 'Settings' > 'Your Apple ID' > 'iCloud'

If you see "iCloud+" then it means that you're still on a paid plan.

In that case, you can either make some space or purchase additional storage (if you've got the 50 or 200GB plans).

If you only see "iCloud", it means you're back on the free 5GB plan despite having purchased some additional storage in the past.

So, it's most probably due to an issue with the payment information linked to your Apple account.

In that case, just visit 'Settings' > 'Your Apple ID' > 'Payment & Shipping' and check that your payment methods are still valid.

Most of the time, it's due to an expired credit card therefore the solution is to add a new credit card and remove the old one.

And you, what’s your current iCloud storage plan?
