How to access sound output and input devices directly from an icon sitting in your Mac's Menu Bar

Did you know that you can access sound output and input devices directly from an icon sitting in your Mac's Menu Bar?

Since macOS Big Sur, accessing sound output devices is a two-click process:

  1. Click on the Control Center icon

  2. Click on the Sound area:

This will then show a menu similar to this one:

The first tip is that if you hold the Option (⌥) key while clicking on the Sound area (step 2), then you'll get a list of both Sound Output and Input devices:

The second tip is that it’s possible to drag & drop the sound icon from Control Center onto the menu bar to be able to access it more quickly:
