Today, I’ll show you how to quickly launch applications and even perform calculations with Spotlight.
In case you don’t know Spotlight, it’s the built-in search tool available on your Mac, iPhone & iPad.
Since it can find any file very quickly, Spotlight can be used to launch applications, even those that are hidden anywhere on your device.
To activate Spotlight on your iOS device, you need to swipe anywhere in the middle of the screen.
In iOS 7 & iOS 8, the only way to activate spotlight is to swipe down with one finger.
In iOS 9, there are two options:
Swiping down from any screen (incl. home screen) will give you app suggestions
Swiping to the right from the home screen will give you contacts, apps & news suggestions
Starting with iOS 10:
Swiping to the right from the home screen leads to a search box on top of the Today view
Swiping down from any screen (incl. the Today view) will give you app and search suggestions
Here is a short demo of Spotlight on an iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 12:
And you, how often do you use Spotlight on your iPhone?
